MDU
( Manned Diver Unit)- or commonly called "Flying Bell"
submersible is a specialized diver-lock vehicle that can carry up to
3 divers and 2 crew. The MDU is a mobile, free-flying, deep water, diver
lockout submersible. The vehicle is setup so that the lower chamber
supports the divers to depths up to 305 meters.Manned
Diving Unit submersible is in excellent condition offered at an exceptional
price.
The MDU/Fling Bell requires a surface support vessel with saturation
diving facilities, and heavy duty launch/recovery handling system. Contact
UVI fior specific details and viewing schedule.
The design is similar to existing Perry Class submarines, but operated
in a vertical mode, rather than a horizontal mode. The MDU has an upper
(AOC) module, with a crew of pilot and co-pilot. Plus a lower (SDC)
module for three divers. The MDU can be used as a one atmosphere observation
chamber, lockout submersible, or conventional diving bell.
Ten powerful hydraulic thrusters provide the thrust to fly the MDU from
the support vessel to the dive site. The MDU thrusters are powered by
dual 75hp electrically driven hydraulic pumps (150hp in total). This
hydraulic power also supports a manipulator, bear-hugger/grab arm, and
various diver tools.
