The DW 2000 submersible is one-man tetherless submersible capable of working in depths up to 2000 fsw.As a state-of-the-art submersible it addresses many of the industry's previous evolutions. Submersible pilots in the past have been constrained to only piloting the vehicle and monitoring his systems, which are critical tasks. DW 2000 operators can be alleviated from a number of these tasks due to technology, modernization and the inherent ergonomic design of this particular vehicle. In this design the pilot is seated upright, the view port is a 25" hemispherical dome. The pilot can enter desired depth and heading data into the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller )and Instruct the PLC to maintain that course, depth and heading. The PLC will continue to perform that function until cancelled by the pilot. The versatility of the PLC along with the ancillary computer also allows for other capabilities such as acoustic electronic communication of critical operational information with the surface support vessel.
The submersible is outfitted with a six-function manipulator, which is powered and driven by onboard 2200 psi hydraulic system with, 2 spare functions for auxiliary equipment. A 3" hydraulic cutter capable of cutting 3" steel stock or other materials can be quickly adapted. Additional hydraulic tooling is easily integrated such as water jets, suctions, and guillotines.
If necessary, an additional manipulator can be installed for specific dexterity requirements. The DW 2000 sub because of its easily varied payload is an excellent platform for various types of electronic equipment. The vehicle's standard configuration includes digital video recording at 550 TVL with time and date stamps, laser scaling, short and long-range sonar, cathodic potential meters, conductivity, temperature, and depth ("CTD") meter, which is synchronized with video recordings, and acoustic telemetry modems, which are used for the transfer of data between the submersible and the surface vessel. Additional electronic equipment is easily integrated such as survey grade echo sounders, magnetometers and many others.
All onboard electronics are integrated into the onboard 333Mhz Pentium based computer, which is also controlled by the pilot, independent of the submersibles PLC. All of these components can be controlled from the surface vessel, through the acoustic telemetry modem.
